How to swap XMR to BTC

A Monero to Bitcoin swap takes four steps. You only need a Monero wallet with funds and a Bitcoin wallet to receive into.

  1. Choose XMR → BTC and enter the amountThe calculator shows the rate, the 1% fee, the Bitcoin network fee and what you will receive.
  2. Paste your Bitcoin addressUse an address from your own wallet. We check its checksum instantly, so a typo can't send your coins to the wrong place. Add a Monero refund address in case the swap can't complete.
  3. Send your Monero depositYou get a one-time deposit address. Send the exact amount from your Monero wallet.
  4. Receive BitcoinAfter 10 Monero confirmations we exchange your XMR and send BTC to your address. You can follow every stage on the swap page.

XMR to BTC fees

Two fees are deducted from the Bitcoin you receive. Nothing is added on top of your deposit.

FeeHow it's calculatedRight now
Service fee1% of the swap amount1%
Bitcoin network feeCurrent fee rate × about 150 vB for a typical payout450 sats ($0.39)

The Bitcoin network fee goes to miners, not to us. It depends on how busy the network is, measured in satoshis per virtual byte (sat/vB). We use the half-hour fee estimate from mempool.space, so your payout is usually included in a block within about 30 minutes. The fee is deducted the same way whichever address format you use.

Because the Bitcoin fee is a fixed amount per transaction, it takes a bigger share of small swaps. On a 0.5 XMR swap it matters more than on a 10 XMR swap.

How long does XMR to BTC take?

Most swaps finish in 20 to 60 minutes. Here is where the time goes:

0 minYou send XMR

Your deposit appears on the Monero network within a couple of minutes.

≈ 20 min10 Monero confirmations

Monero produces a block about every 2 minutes. We wait for 10 blocks, the same lock Monero wallets use before funds can be spent.

≈ 22 minExchange and payout

Your XMR is exchanged and the Bitcoin transaction is broadcast to your Bitcoin address.

≈ 20–60 minBitcoin confirmation

Your wallet shows the BTC right away as pending. It confirms when the next Bitcoin blocks include it, roughly every 10 minutes.

Which Bitcoin addresses can receive?

You can receive to any standard Bitcoin address. Your wallet will show one of these formats:

Legacy · 1…

The original format, still used by some older wallets and exchanges.

Nested SegWit · 3…

Common on exchanges and older hardware wallet setups.

Native SegWit · bc1q…

The most common format in modern wallets. 42 characters.

Taproot · bc1p…

The newest format. 62 characters, slightly more private on-chain, supported by most current wallets.

All four formats work with QuietSwap, and the form checks each one with its own checksum. If your wallet lets you choose, a bc1 address is the modern default.

Why people swap Monero to Bitcoin

  • Spending and paying: many more merchants, services and payment processors accept Bitcoin than Monero.
  • Moving to an exchange: several large exchanges have stopped listing XMR, so people convert to BTC first.
  • Rebalancing: some holders keep both coins and move between them as prices change.
  • Lightning payments: once you hold BTC, you can move it to a Lightning wallet for small, instant payments.

Keep in mind that Bitcoin's blockchain is public. Once you receive BTC, anyone can see the balance and transactions of that address.

Safety checklist before you swap

  • Copy your Bitcoin address straight from your wallet. Never type it by hand.
  • Check the first and last six characters after pasting. Some malware swaps clipboard addresses.
  • Make sure you are on quietswap.io and the connection shows a lock icon.
  • Send the exact amount shown, from a wallet you control.
  • Keep your order ID until the swap shows "Complete".

Why the XMR to BTC rate moves

The rate is the price of one Monero measured in Bitcoin. It changes whenever either coin moves against the dollar, so it can shift even on a quiet day. QuietSwap reads the XMR/BTC market price every 30 seconds and applies it when your deposit has 10 confirmations.

That means the estimate you see at the start can differ a little from the final figure. On a typical day the difference over 20 minutes is a fraction of a percent. On volatile days it can be more, in either direction.

Market rate vs what you receive

The "market value" column in the rate table is the plain conversion. "You receive" is the same amount after the 1% service fee and the Bitcoin network fee. We show both so you can see exactly where the difference goes.

Troubleshooting an XMR to BTC swap

My deposit isn't showing yet

Monero wallets sometimes need a few minutes to broadcast a transaction, especially if the wallet was still syncing. Check that the transaction appears as sent in your wallet. Once it's on the network, the swap page updates automatically.

The swap is stuck on "Confirming deposit"

We wait for 10 Monero blocks. Blocks arrive about every 2 minutes on average, but the gap between blocks varies, so this step can take 15 to 30 minutes.

I received BTC but my wallet shows it as unconfirmed

That's normal. The payout is broadcast immediately and confirms when a miner includes it in a block. With the fee rate we use, that usually happens within half an hour.

I pasted the wrong address

The swap form won't accept an invalid Bitcoin address, but it can't know whether a valid address belongs to you. If you notice a mistake before sending your deposit, start a new swap. Once a payout is sent, it can't be reversed.

XMR to BTC: frequently asked questions

How much BTC will I get for 1 XMR?

At the current rate of 1 XMR = 0.006370 BTC, you receive that amount minus the 1% service fee and the Bitcoin network fee. The calculator at the top of this page shows the exact figure for any amount.

How long does an XMR to BTC swap take?

Usually 20 to 60 minutes. Monero needs 10 confirmations (about 20 minutes) before the swap starts, and the Bitcoin payout then needs to be picked up by a miner, which depends on network traffic.

Which Bitcoin addresses can I receive to?

All standard formats: legacy addresses starting with 1, nested SegWit addresses starting with 3, and bc1 addresses (native SegWit and Taproot). The form checks the address before you continue.

What is the minimum amount to swap XMR to BTC?

The minimum swap is the equivalent of $85. The swap box shows it in XMR at the live rate. Smaller amounts would lose too large a share to network fees.

Is the exchange rate fixed when I create the swap?

The rate shown is an estimate. The final rate is set when your Monero deposit has 10 confirmations, so the amount you receive can move slightly with the market in the meantime.

What if I send the wrong amount of XMR?

If you send more or less than the amount shown, the swap is recalculated at the rate when your deposit confirms. If the amount is below the minimum, it is returned to your refund address minus the network fee.
